2020 EBC Climate Change Project of the Year Award Winner

Childs Engineering was part of the Clippership Wharf team that was selected to receive the 2020 EBC Climate Change Project of the Year Award presented by The Environmental Business Council of New England. “Clippership Wharf is an innovative residential complex pioneering the integration of climate resiliency features to protect the site and enhance the waterfront. The design includes a living shoreline, the first in Boston’s urban harbor, that exceeds Boston’s Coastal Flood Resilience Design standards and creates a natural flood barrier, ultimately protecting not only tenants but other inland properties in East Boston. The project includes a $25M brownfields cleanup, four acres of waterfront open space, green infrastructure that works in concert with engineered systems and raingardens to increase the site’s climate resiliency, and a 1,700 linear foot extension of the harborwalk.” Childs Engineering provided marine engineering services for this mixed-use development project. Childs was responsible for the design of the seawall stabilization and the fixed piers. The seawall stabilization is provided by a new stone rip rap perimeter around the old seawalls.
