Childs Engineering’s engineer divers spent most of the summer inspecting the various piers and wharfs at Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard in Kittery, ME. The inspections involved both underwater and topside inspections, including the fender systems, mooring hardware, and a detailed inventory and assessment of the utilities. The underwater inspection included taking both ultrasonic thickness readings and potential reading on the steel elements to see how much the steel had corroded and how well any cathodic protection system were working.
