U.S. Coast Guard Aids to Navigation (ATON) Inspections

Childs Engineering was contracted by the U.S. Coast Guard CEU Miami to perform detailed inspections of Major Aids to Navigation (ATON) in both offshore and inland locations. Our team of engineers conducted comprehensive assessments of structural conditions above and below the waterline, including dive inspections and topside climbs. The inspections included evaluations of steel integrity, coating thickness, and safety features such as ladders and fall protection, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards. Each structure was documented with detailed condition reports and compliance certification summaries.
Underwater Bridge Inspection

In 2022, Childs Engineering was retained by the New York State Bridge Authority to perform underwater inspections and hydrographic surveys on several major Hudson River crossings, including the Rip Van Winkle, Kingston-Rhinecliff, Walkway Over the Hudson (Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge), Mid-Hudson, and Newburgh-Beacon Bridges (Northbound and Southbound).
United States Navy Waterfront Facility Inspections

Childs Engineering provided full-service engineering support for the inspection, structural analysis, and reporting of waterfront facilities at multiple U.S. Navy Facilities along the East Coast and inland. Work included topside and underwater inspections performed by in-house engineer dive teams in compliance with EM 385-1-1. Inspections covered a variety of waterfront structures including piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, fender systems, mooring hardware, marinas, floating piers, boat ramps, and related structures.
