Childs Engineering brings over 55 years of experience dedicated solely to providing waterfront structural engineering services. Our expertise serves both public and private sector clients with a comprehensive range of services tailored to the unique challenges of waterfront infrastructure.

This work encompasses tasks such as topside and underwater inspections, structural and geotechnical analysis, surveying, permitting, and preparation of plans and specifications.

From initial condition assessments to the design of repairs or new structures to construction oversight, Childs Engineering delivers end-to-end solutions, to ensure quality and longevity in every project.

What Sets Us Apart

Our staff includes registered professional engineers with specialties in structural, civil, geotechnical, and ocean engineering. Each team member is highly qualified and experienced in the inspection, assessment, design, and repair of waterfront facilities.

Uniquely, our engineers are also cross-trained as ADCI certified commercial divers. This means the same experts performing both topside and underwater inspections, are the ones assessing conditions, designing repairs, and preparing reports and construction documents. This integrated approach ensures first-hand knowledge, deeper project insight, and more accurate assessments, reports, and designs.

Our History

Founded in 1970 by Kenny Childs, Childs Engineering has been a leader in waterfront and coastal structural engineering. From the beginning, we’ve set the standard for underwater inspections by having licensed engineers, perform underwater assessments guaranteeing precision and dependability.

As Kenny Childs noted in New England Construction (1976), “Underwater inspection of structures should be made by licensed professional engineers…” This commitment to quality continues today.

For over 50 years, we’ve specialized in engineering services for waterfront infrastructure, serving clients both across the U.S. and internationally. Now, under the leadership of Charlie M.
